The thematic tour reveals the origin and describes the architectural style of the Church of the Ascension, the gem of Russian architecture, and St. George the Victorious Bell Tower, as well as other architectural monuments located at the Tsar’s Courtyard of Alexey Mikhailovich and Ascension Square in Kolomenskoye. As part of the program you will visit the exposition in the podklet (the low-level ground floor) of the Church of the Ascension.

The thematic tour illustrates the most significant events in the history of Kolomenskoye at the turn of the XVIII century, and the life of the first Russian Emperor Peter I (the Great). First Visit to the Palace of Tsar Alexey Mikhailovich (5+)

The Palace of Tsar Alexey Mikhailovich is amazing in its architecture so that it got many names including ‘a toy from a chest’ or ‘the eighth wonder of the world’. Even architects share common adoration of the palace acknowledging it as the top of the medieval architecture. The Palace reconstructed in the XXI century amazes visitors with its sizes (there are 26 towers!) as well as with diversity of roof covering, wood carving, porches and entrances, exquisite windows, etc.

Visitors will be introduced into the life of the N. Durasov’s Palace built at the beginning of the XIX century where feasts, balls and musical evenings were organized. They will be able to see architectural appearance and interior décor of the Liublino estate.

The tour will introduce you into the everyday life and feasts of the serf theatre in Liublino. You will visit the Theatre school built at the very beginning of the XIX century and will be able to see genuine theatrical items originating from famous serf theatres. Nikolay Durasov’s Estate in Liublino near Moscow (12+)

The tour illustrates the everyday life of nobleman’s estate inhabitants in the XIX century based on the history of Liublino palace and park. Besides, you will visit an estate theatrical buildings complex that has been preserved since the existence of the serf theatre established by the host, and learn about traditional countryside amusements of that time.

 Nikolay Durasov’s Liublino Estate

The thematic tour around the ancient Nikolay Durasov’s estate near Moscow illustrates the life of the XIX century country noble residence. You will see a complex of surviving theatrical buildings (Theatre School and Theatre) and learn about one of the biggest serf theatres in Russia. You will find out how the building of the boarding school for noble children is related to Fedor Dostoevsky. You will see with your own eyes that a greenhouse and park have always created a special atmosphere in any estate. And, of course, you will visit the gem of Durasov’s estate, namely the palace built in Empire style and designed for guest receptions, balls and amusements that were in fashion at the beginning of the XIX century.

The Russian XVII Century Art Treasures

During this thematic tour of the exposition located at the Kolomenskoye Palace you will see unique objects of the Russian XVII century artistic culture that make part of the Moscow State Integrated Museum-Reserve collection. While enjoying the fine and richly adorned items that create an image of the ‘garden of paradise’ so much appreciated in the XVII century you will learn about the works of the best Russian icon painters, artists and engravers, wood carvers, glazed tile art masters and smiths who created the décor of the Tsar’s Palace in Kolomenskoye.

Falcon hunting was a favourite entertainment of Tsar Alexey Mikhailovich. During the tour you will learn about ancient ways of hunting, the life of falconers, methods of hunting birds training, and will be able to see live falcons.

The program is focused on the life of the two Russian Tsars in Kolomenskoye and includes visiting of the Milestone in the History of Kolomenskoye exposition at the Front Gate complex as well as the Builder, Sailor, Hero exposition at the House of Peter I. During the theatrical part of the program (Historical Miniatures) guests may dress as Tsar Aleksey Mikhailovich, Natalia Naryshkina, Emperor Peter I or members of the Boyar’s Duma to dance at a Petrine Assembly.

The program is focused on the life of peasants during the winter season when all the field works have been done and the time of folk feasts is coming. Participants will visit the Kolomenskoye peasant’s estate and have a ride in horse sleighs. They will be introduced into funny folk games and funs.

Christmas-tide in Kolomenskoye (from January 3rd till January 29th)

During the program the visitors will get acquainted with architectural monuments of the Tsar’s Court and Ascension Square and visit one of the halls of the exposition located in the Front Gate complex. Folk part of the program includes a performance focused on Christmas-tide rituals, traditional songs and games while guests can put on dresses that people wore during Christmas folk festivities.

‘Maslenitsa or Pancake Week’ and ‘Mistress Maslenitsa’ (from January 31st till March 19th)

(The two versions of the program have different scripts for artistic parts that are performed by different ensembles)

During the thematic tour around the Tsar’s Courtyard complex you will learn about this folk’s favourite feast, its origin and particularities and visit one of the exposition halls in the Front Gate complex – the one devoted to peasants’ life at the palace-administered Kolomenskoye district. The interactive folklore performance will bring you right to the Maslenitsa feast.

The program gives an insight into the traditional Russian ideas of beauty by the example of the reconstructed Palace of Tsar Alexey Mikhailovich and artistic decoration of its gala chambers. Besides, unique Russian XVII century art objects from the museum collections illustrate such concepts crucial for the Russian art as ‘bird-of-paradise ornament’, ‘Garden of Paradise’, and ‘herbal painting’. The program is an attempt to look at the palace life not from the traditional gala but from the everyday life point of view. Here, the life of the Tsar’s family is considered to be the cornerstone. During the tour you will be shown around the men’s and women’s halves of the palace. At the artistic part of the program you will find yourself in the chambers of Tsarina Natalia Kirillovna Naryshkina. Tsar Alexey Mikhailovich will come himself to inquire after health of the Tsarina and young Tsarevich Peter Alexeevich. Besides, you will see the Tsar’s elder daughters including the famous Tsarevna Sofia. The Tsar and his kindred will come before you as a big family, and Tsar Alexey Mikhailovich will be first of all represented as a genuine family man and loving father, and only then as a sovereign.

A guide will show you around the gala chambers of the Palace of Tsar Alexey Mikhailovich that still amazes and impresses with its beauty all those who get inside. The theatrical performance will be held both by fairy-tale characters, such as Snowstorm and Snowman, and historical ones – Tsar Alexey Mikhailovich and Tsarina Natalia Kirillovna Naryshkina. At the end of the program pancakes will be offered.

A walk around Izmailovo Island with a guide, acquaintance with its architectural monuments and a tour of the Moscow Glazed Tiles Art exposition located on the ground floor of the Mostovaya (Bridge) Tower harmonize with a story about celebration of Maslenitsa in Old Russia. The program ends with a folklore feast during which you will find out about the traditions of each day of the Maslenitsa week and take part in festive amusements and games.

The tour and artistic program inform about the origin and development of the Russian ball art in the XIX century, the bases of ball etiquette and traditional dances of the time. Wedding Gift at Nikolay Durasov’s Palace in Liublino

The sightseeing and artistic program carries the visitors away to the 19th century, gives an idea about the warm welcome the guests used to receive from Nikolay Durasov, famous all over Moscow for his “bread-and-salt” hospitality, and about Russian wedding traditions (bread and salt are traditional Russian symbols of a warm welcome, and the expression is now used figuratively).

The guests will find out the history of the Palace, see its interior decoration, and will enjoy the atmosphere of a 19th – century reception, solemn and merry at a time.
