«Projects and Festivals»

Festivals organized at all the Museum’s sites constitute one of the new lines in the Museum’s activities of the last few years. Thanks to large-scale open-air events organized free of charge for visitors at all the sites of the Museum-Reserve, world music masterpieces can be heard by a great audience.

 

The “Old Russia Singing” festival has been held at the Church of the Ascension (16th century) since 1992. Church choirs and professional singers participate in this festival. The next festival will take place in June and July 2009.

  

The “Russian Seasons” festival that follows and develops the idea of Sergey Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes, was first held in 2007, at the Tsar’s estate of Kolomenskoye. This festival gathered together a number of young Russian stars: Pavel Baransky, Tatyana Pavlovskaya, Daniil Shtoda (singers), Gayk Kazazyan (violin), “Style of Five” (a unique ensemble of folk Russian musical instruments), and Moscow Chamber Orchestra (The State Academic Chamber Orchestra of Russia) under the direction of Constantine Orbelian.

 

The tradition of “Concerts for Ex-servicemen” originally held from1813 to 1914, was revived in 2008 at the Tsar’s Estate of Izmailovo.

 

“From Ascension Day to the Trinity” This musical festival was first held in 2008 at the Izmailovo Estate. 1 June 2009, a concert version of Sergey Rakhmaninov’s “Aleko” opera will be given. This event will be carried out as a pilot project of the National Open Air Opera Festival “The Empire of Opera”.

  • It is planned to organize concerts and special offer events dedicated to the 200th anniversary of Nikolay Gogol (at the Kolomenskoye Estate), and the 210th anniversary of Alexander Pushkin.
  • “200 years of Russian salon singing traditions”, which is a historical reconstruction, will be held at the Liublino Estate).

 

Every year in May, the Museum-Reserve takes part in the “Museum Night” programme.

 

In 2009, the Sand Sculpture World Championship will be held again in Kolomenskoye. Sculptors from Russia, the USA, India, Denmark, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Czech Republic, Ireland, Bulgaria, Ukraine, and Belgium will create twelve masterpieces of sand, complying with the topic: “Great Achievements of Mankind”.

  

In 2009 The Zingaro Equestrian Theatre and the Ici Circus (France) will give performances in Kolomenskoye, in the framework of the A. P. Chekhov 3RD International Theatre Festival.

 

«International Exhibition Activities»

Moscow State United Museum-Reserve regularly participates in different International activities, such as the professional restoration exhibitions and exhibitions of flowers decoration and landscape design, and receives the high awards.

Restoration. Every three years Moscow State United Museum-Reserve participates in the professional restoration exhibition “The Triennial. The restoration of the museum valuable pieces of Russia”. For these activities the museum was rewarded with the diplomas of the Ministry of Culture of RF. The exhibits from the collection of the museum that were restored by our employees achieved success during their demonstration in Prague, Madrid, New-York, Paris, St.Paulo, Santiago de Chile.

 

Landscape. The landscape compositions of the museum-reserve in 2006-2008 received the high awards of the Jury of the International exhibition of flowers decoration and landscape design. With the help of the drawings and the historical records the compositions of flowers that ages ago decorated the gardens of the Russian rulers and the noblity were recreated in the unique historical territories of the united museum-reserve, in the old estates Kolomenskoye, Izmaylovo, Lublino and in the palace and park ensemble Lefortovo.
