FRENCH PERFUMERS IN MOSCOW, LATE XIX – EARLY XX CENTURIES

Mirror Hall, Theatre School, Liublino

5 September 2018 – 31 March 2019

The period of late XIX – early XX centuries can rightly be called the ‘Golden age of Russian perfumery’. In the XIX century, Russia became a magnet attracting brilliant pharmacists, gardeners, soap makers and unknown perfumers. These young people pursued fame and hankered for money in order to become famous and flee to France. However, many of them stayed in Russia forever to found national perfumery history that we present at this exhibition.

There you can find unique collections of labels and packages, advertising items of perfume companies founded in Moscow by French entrepreneurs who worked in the Russian market.

This exhibition containing in total over 300 unique items was carried out by the Museum-Reserve in cooperation with the Museum of Packaging and with the participation of leading Moscow and regional museums as well as operating perfume companies and private collectors.
