ASK ST. NICHOLAS, AND HE WILL BRING IT FORTH TO CHRIST THE SAVIOUR!

This exhibition located at St George the Victorious Church on the territory of the Moscow State Integrated Museum-Reserve is dedicated to St. Nicholas the Wonderworker famous all over the world. Visitors can see the iconography of the saint presented both in icons and graphics as well as rare ancient books and copper cast icons.

The name of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker who races to rescue and prays for all coming to him in a flow, has become famous around the globe, and plenitude of religious buildings bear his sacred name.

   

Many wonder-working icons of the saint have appeared in Russia and came from abroad. It is hardly possible to count them all. Every Russian town and every church has been blessed with an icon of the saint. Since the times of Grand Prince Vladimir till present days, in case of general catastrophes and private misfortunes people will turn in their prayers to the icon of St. Nicholas who will miraculously help and free them of their woes and troubles.

   

Russian people formed warm and trusting relations with this saint who according to legend was notable for kindness and open-heartedness. Even Russian proverbs reflect special feelings towards St. Nicholas saying ‘There is no one against St.Nicholas’ and ‘Ask St. Nicholas and he brings it forth to Christ the Saviour’. Christian people called him ‘quick helper and defender’, ‘kind protector’ and revered him for his kindness, true grit, believing that he would openly stand for the innocent, determinately and bravely help those wrongly convinced and persecuted.

Exhibition opening hours: Tuesday-Sunday – from 10.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m., closed on Mondays. Tickets are available at the museum ticket offices from 10.00 a.m. to 5.30 p.m., as well as on the official web-site of the museum.
