Kolomenskoye

The Moscow State Integrated Museum-Reserve organizes a “Fund Treasures” series of one-object exhibitions. Art objects from the Museum’s store-rooms are made available to the public. The exhibitions take place in the Atrium of the Museum’s Depository in Kolomenskoye.

 

The exhibition «Returned masterpiece» is opened in St. George's church, Kolomenskoye.It is devoted to returning to Russia a unique icon «Parable on the Origin of the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God» stolen 15 years ago on exhibition in 1825 Pavilion (Kolomenskoye).

Photo Exhibition in the project by Yuri Kholdin "Light of the frescoes of Dionysius to the world" For the first time after the death of photographer some previously exhibited works of the famous project "Light of the frescoes of Dionysius to the world" will be represented in Kolomenskoye. 

 

The Vodovzvodnaya (Water) Tower is one of the most mysterious monuments of Kolomenskoye. The exposition “The history of water supply techniques at the Tsar’s Court” acquaints the visitor with the ways of using various water-lifting mechanisms in 16th – 19th centuries, in the day-to-day household of the Tsar’s Court.

 

The history of wooden architecture monuments removed to Kolomenskoye in the 1920s and 1930s and restored for the first time, and the story of the fortress inhabitants’ life – that’s what the visitors will learn at the exposition in the Mokhovaya Tower, on the Sumskoy Island.

 

A genuine interior of the time of Peter I has been recreated at the House of Peter I recently opened to public after restoration. The exposition tells about the initial stage of reforms carried out by Peter I, and about the wide-range interests of this Tsar and reformer.

 

A unique place at the Church of the Ascension in Kolomenskoye has been made available to the public. That is the ground floor where according to a legend, the icon of the Holy Lady of the State was found. The exposition entitled “A Wondrous Church” has been opened to commemorate the 475th anniversary of the dedication of the Church.

 

“Masters: the Russian Building Art and Technique of the in 15th – 19th centuries” . The exhibits presented in this exposition are but part of a much larger museum collection made up in the 1920s and 1930s by Peter D. Baranovsky, the Museum’s Director of that time, and expanded by next generations of the museum employees. The exposition focuses on the topic of professional skill and masters and emphasizes the idea of the strong national character of the Russian art of building.

 

The complex of the Palace (Front) Gate of the Tsar’s Court houses the “Milestones of the History of Kolomenskoye” exposition dedicated to the history of the village of Kolomenskoye that used to be part of the Moscow region, and its surroundings, beginning from ancient times up to the 1930s.

 

The complex exposition of “Horse Yard” permits to trace the origin and the history of horse-breeding in old Russia, and get an idea about the practice of breeding horses of well-known Russian species.

 

 

The “Honey Kolomenskoye” exposition at the Hiver’s Farm acquaints the visitor with the household of peasant beekeepers of the 19th and 20th centuries, and tells the history of beekeeping.

 

 

Izmailovo

“From Arms to Peace” is another exhibition open in Izmailovo. This exhibition of Victor Matorin, modern Moscow artist, is dedicated to the 630th Anniversary of the Battle of Kulikovo (one of the key battles in the Golden Horde period of the Russian history). The philosophic concepts of arms and peace are revealed through the portraits of historical figures presented at the exhibition. The portrait of Prince Dmitry Donskoy, the Russian ruler that won the Battle of Kulikovo, is the centre of the exposition and the key painting of the series of works depicting the heroes of the Battle. Beside historical canvases, there are landscapes, still lives, genre paintings, each of which helps the visitor to feel the atmosphere of Medieval Russia. The exhibition will be open till 30 June 2010.

 

“The Moscow Tile Art”, the exhibition opened at the Bridge Tower, reflects the changes and peculiar features of the unique building ceramics art from 15th to 20th centuries. The visitors will learn about the “golden age” of the Moscow glazing tile art.

 

 

The Palace of Nikolay Durasov and the Liublino Estate

The exhibition “Painting and furniture from the collection of the State Art and Historical Museum-Reserve of Sergiyev Posad in interiors of Nikolay Durasov Palace” is opened in Lublino. The exhibits presented include the furniture set from the Princes Trubetsky manor in the village of Аkhtyrka, and picturesque portraits of empress Maria Fedorovna, the wife of emperor Pavel I and emperor Peter III. By efforts of the Moscow State Integrated Museum-Reserve professionals, the early 19th- century furniture restoration was carried out.

           

 

A considerable role in the expositions at the Palace of Nikolay Durasov in Liublino is given to objects that once were part of the peculiar world of estate owners, and are associated with their habits and interests.Ground floor, Knight Hall. The Exhibition of arms shows the protective arms for horsemen, cold steel, fire-arms, harness dating back to the 13 – 19th centuries, works of artisans from Oriental countries, Western Europe, and Russia.

 

Exhibition Hall, “Theatre: a miraculous transformation”. This exhibition is dedicated to the theatre of the late 18th and early 19th centuries, and acquaints the visitor with the structure and atmosphere of the 18th – century theatre of nobleman’s estates. Here one can see theatre machinery, sketches of costumes and décor. Portraits of Nikolay Durasov’s theatre supervisors remind of the theatre traditions at Liublino. The visitors can also look at working models of machines used at the theatre to imitate nature phenomena (the so-called “wind machine”, “thunder machine”, and “rain machine”), as well as the “fame machine”.

 

 

In the halls on the second floor, one can find the furniture, paintings, drawings, ivory and bronze objects of the 18th and 19th century.

First floor, Wedding Hall. The exposition of this hall tells about the wedding traditions of the 19th and the beginning of 20th century. Here one can see pictures from 19th – century French fashion magazines, invitations to wedding ceremonies and wedding parties, wedding cards and photos of late 19th and early 20th century. One can pay special attention to a genuine wedding dress and a gentleman’s suit that are part of the exposition.

Second floor, “There are many places delightfully adorned”. This exhibition tells about the gardens design of late 18th and early 19th century and shows various park and garden landscapes from the “Garden Design 1778” albums.

“The past days memory that we are proud of”. Through this exposition, the visitor can get acquainted with the owners of Liublino: Nikolay Durasov, active Councilor of State, army brigadier, and his successors.

“The Temple of Tastes” exposition in the Drawing-room for Ladies is dedicated to the popular hobbies of estate residents of 18th and 19th centuries, special attention being given to the musical tastes of the estate owners. The orchestra at Nikolay Durasov’s estate was considered “the best and the most complete”. After a luxurious dinner, singers charmed the guests’ ears with sweet songs accompanied by clarinet and horn. The interior of the Drawing-room is complete thanks to engravings depicting musical instruments.

The period “on the border of” the 18th and 19th centuries came to be considered the “golden age” of Russian beadwork. Beading was a very popular hobby among the nobility, and this is confirmed by a great quantity of exhibits – little pictures and accessories embroidered with bead.
