FALCONRY: A ROYAL FUN WITH HUNTING BIRDS

27 July, 2017 – 14 January, 2018

Sitny Yard Exhibition Halls, Kolomenskoye

The exhibition timed to coincide with the Year of Ecology in Russia tells about the hunting with birds of prey as an art. In the reign of Tsar Alexey Mikhailovich, the second half of the XVII century, Kolomenskoye became a falconry centre. It is in his epoch that this occupation took a clear aesthetic and structural shape and gained in importance. Documents, stuffed birds, painting and graphics, figurines, books, icons, everyday life items, harness and musical instruments will reveal that peculiar culture of falconers not restricted just to hunting as a method of surviving.
